Working With Spring Style

Ladies, the truth of the matter is that I haven’t been in a store since July 2020.

I only ran into two stores that month because I knew the owners. One situation was fine, the other not so much. Too many people in a small boutique. I fled. I miss shopping, visiting stores, finding new items for clients, and supporting local business owners.

I am here to remind you that you can call to schedule a custom styling session with me to jumpstart your spring online purchasing. If you are inclined to shop safely in-stores, we can direct those efforts as well.

Spring is all about layering. I like the use of layers in clothing, jewelry, as well as makeup, scents, and outerwear. For New Englanders, using layers is key to comfortable dressing.

TIP: There are never enough layers! When I work on wardrobe curation, layers are my golden ticket. Layering works on all body types, shapes, and sizes, however, the trick is in the proportions. Pay attention to the weight of the fabrics that are being mixed. Light with heavy. Not too much emphasis on one fabric weight. If you typically shy away from layering, try a slow entry into layers with a monochromatic look while varying the textures of the fabrics used.

My favorite theme for spring 2021 is khaki/safari and camouflage. I am hooked on neutral colors such as khaki, soft white, tan, and bone. It’s unfortunate that these tones and looks can get a bad reputation.

A tip for wearing khaki in a modern way - look for pieces that have a modern shape and great tailoring. Look for camouflage with interesting color combinations, and pair with your basics or a subtle pop of color.

My all-time favorite look for spring is a navy, linen, wide-leg trouser pant, with a v-neck long-sleeve cotton white shirt, topped off with a khaki or safari-style jacket. Add a long, lightweight scarf in a strong color such as gold and brown. Perfect!

A tip for camouflage: pick the new color combinations. I recently saw camouflage in shades of blue. I was so excited to think that it can go with dark colors and then lighter tones like white and bone for spring.

I encourage everyone to look at the major fashion houses and to get inspired, then hunt for less expensive versions while maintaining quality. It’s important to know what you love first, then you can choose your investment pieces.
